Abstract:

The interline power flow controller (IPFC) is a concept of the FACTS controller for series compensation which can inject a voltage with controllable magnitude and phase angle among multi lines. This paper proposes a novel IPFC-Based Damping Neuro-control scheme using PSO for damping oscil‌la‌t‌i‌o‌ns in a power system to improve power system stability. The add‌i‌tion of a supplementary controller to the IPFC main control can provide effective damping to the low frequency oscil‌l‌a‌‌tion on the heavily loaded tie lines of interconnected power systems. However, the conventional controller designed based on a linea‌ri‌z‌ed model cannot provide satisfactory performance over a wide ra‌nge of operation point and under large disturbances.

Robust Design of Power Oscillation Damping Controller for Ipfc Using Particle Swarm Optimization

This paper uses the Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) technique to investigate the damping control function of an Interline Power Flow Controller (IPFC) installed in a power system. For this purpose, the linearized Herffron-Phillips model of a Single-Machine Infinite Bus (SMIB) system is established and a performance index which is defined based on the system dynamics is applied as an objective...

Optimization of grid independent diesel-based hybrid system for power generation using improved particle swarm optimization algorithm

The power supply of remote sites and applications at minimal cost and with low emissions is an important issue when discussing future energy concepts. This paper presents modeling and optimization of a photovoltaic (PV)/wind/diesel system with batteries storage for electrification to an off-grid remote area located in Rafsanjan, Iran. For this location, different hybrid systems are studied and ...

OPTIMAL DESIGN OF ARCH DAMS FOR FREQUENCY LIMITATIONS USING CHARGED SYSTEM SEARCH AND PARTICLE SWARM OPTIMIZATION

In recent years, the importance of economical considerations in the field of dam engineering has motivated many researchers to propose new methods for minimizing the cost of dames and in particular arch dams. This paper presents a method for shape optimization of double curvature arch dams corresponding to minimum construction cost while satisfying different constraints such as natural frequenc...

A Multi-Objective HBMO-Based New FC-MCR Compensator for Damping of Power System Oscillations

In this paper, a novel compensator based on Magnetically Controlled Reactor with Fixed Capacitor banks (FC-MCR) is introduced and then power system stability in presence of this compensator is studied using an intelligent control method. The problem of robust FC-MCR-based damping controller design is formulated as a multi-objective optimization problem. The multi-objective problem is concocted ...

Finite element model updating of a geared rotor system using particle swarm optimization for condition monitoring

In this paper, condition monitoring of a geared rotor system using finite element (FE) model updating and particle swarm optimization (PSO) method is onsidered. For this purpose, employing experimental data from the geared rotor system, an updated FE model is obtained. The geared rotor system under study consists of two shafts, four bearings, and two gears. To get the experimental data,  iezoel...
